About Our Art Room

Welcome to Mr. E's Art Room - our JJMS 7th grade art room weblog where you can see just what it is we do here in Mr. Eldridge's studio.

I have been teaching art in the district for ten years, the past two at JJMS as the 7th grade art instructor and prior to that at Lewisboro Elementary School as the full time art instructor for all 450+ students in grades k-5 (2006-2012) and prior to that as the traveling art instructor for Lewisboro, Meadow Pond and Katonah Elementary Schools (2004-2006). I was also the full-time sub at Lewisboro Elementary for two years (2002-2004) and prior to that subbed around the district from elementary through high school. I have taught many of your children and have the pleasure of seeing some of my earliest students graduate and go off to college.

I earned my BFA from Suny Purchase and an MAT from Manhattanville and am a permanently certified k-12 Art Instructor with NY State. I have been a practicing artist all my adult life and came late in life to teaching, only to discover that I love sharing my knowledge and enthusiasm for the fine arts with my students. They posess within them the potential to be and do so much and it is that potential and enthusiasm for knowledge that I wish to ignight.

I teach through an historical paradigm, from the cave to the computer studying the artists of the past and connecting them to the present. When Picasso emerged from the caves of Lascaux France, having seen the work of ancient artists on the walls, he remarked, "We have learned nothing."  However, it is my belief and conviction that art can be taught, or rather discovered within any learner.
